Sir George Adam Smith tells how he and his guide were climbing the Weisshorn in the Swiss Alps. It was stormy and they were making their climb on the sheltered side of the peak. When they reached the summit, they were filled with the exhilaration. Sir George forgot about the fierce winds, leaped up and was nearly blown over the edge to the glacier below The guide grabbed hold of him and exclaimed: "On your knees, sir. You are safe here only on your knees!"
Life is like that. When we accomplish great things or even seek to accomplish great things we sometimes do not factor in the winds of the world that can blow us from our place of safety to our doom and demise. Therefore, you and I must remember that the only safe place in life is on your knees.
Jesus Christ understood this. Jesus had a strong prayer life. He was always praying. When you search the biblical record, you would discover that the disciples would often wake up in the mornings looking for Jesus only to discover that He would be gone. Where? Mark 1:35 says, “Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.” He prayed all morning. At other times He prayed all night. Luke 6:12 says, “Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray and continued all night in prayer to God.” There were even times Jesus would send His disciples on to their next destination while he remained behind to pray. Matthew 14:23 says, “And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there.” Jesus Christ did not do anything on earth without first spending in prayer.
If Jesus Christ, the perfect Son of God, had to depend on prayer during His earthly ministry, then how much more do you and I need to learn how to pray! If you and I are to accomplish great things for God, we must first spend time on or knees. It is the only sure place to get God’s best for your life.
Be Encouraged,
